A versatile lyric soprano with a varied portfolio of creative work and a broad range of repertoire on stage and in song
From Tatyana Eugene Onegin, Mimì and Musetta La Bohème, Giorgetta Il Tabarro, Cio Cio San (cover) Madama Butterfly, Naiad Ariadne auf Naxos and Romilda Xerxes to Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd and in contemporary opera Eve The Diaries of Adam and Eve and Strekoza Strekoza i Muravey, I’ve worked on stage with conductors George Vass, Matthew Kofi Waldren, Paul Wingfield, Benjamin Ellin at venues including Tête-a-Tête Festival and the Arcola Theatre., Dartington International Festival Benjamin Ellin at Huddersfield Town Hall.
Highlights in song include singing the première of Julian Philips’ dramatic monologue Life Lessens at the Bloomsbury Festival and Wigmore Hall, works by Raymond Yiu, Ed Nesbit and Joe Atkins at the New Dots Symposium ROH / Clore and LSO ST Luke’s, and Britten’s Four Burns Songs at The Red House, Aldeburgh.
Oratorio work includes Mozart Requiem (St Martin-in-the-Fields), Orff Carmina Burana and Haydn Creation (St John's, Waterloo), St John Passion (St George's Cathedral), Fauré Requiem and Haydn Nelson Mass (Peterborough Cathedral), Mozart Coronation Mass (Anghiari Festival) and Birtwhistle The Fields of Sorrow (Snape Maltings / BBC Radio 3).
Opera chorus work includes Britten Death in Venice and Vaughan Williams The Pilgrim’s Progress with Philharmonia Voices and Richard Hickox at the QEH / Sadler’s Wells and Donizetti Caterina Cornaro with the BBC Singers / Opera Rara and David Parry.
Since working a jazz duo while studying French and Italian at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, I’ve appeared as a guest vocalist at the Ritz Hotel London, with The London Dance Orchestra for The St Marylebone Festival and in hybrid classical-American songbook programmes for INK, New Paths and Dartington International Festival.
Current projects include a recording of lesser-known Italian 20th century art songs, the result of research begun with the generosity of a Finzi Trust Travel Scholarship, and writing a creative non-fiction book travelling the liminal spaces of music and memory.
Passionate about helping others find and nurture their authentic voice, I have a flourishing teaching practice in singing and yoga. When not singing or on the mat, I can most likely be found on a coastal walk with my imaginary border collie, preparing for the next plunge into the sea or writing project.
