“The most compassionate approach to the practice”
With 450 hours of yoga teacher training in Vinyasa, Mandala Flow, Yin and Yoga with Somatics, I guide practices in all these modes, with a particular focus on building creative confidence and nurturing authentic voice in professional singers and non-singers alike.
Initially attracted to yoga by the physical support that the practice could offer a performer’s body, I soon came to appreciate the spiritual and philosophical aspects of this vast forest of a tradition, and undertook my Initial Teacher Training with MoreYoga London during the pandemic primarily as an opportunity to deepen my understanding. Following an instinct that this was a crucial part of my ongoing development as an artist, and therefore also crucial part of what I passed on in my teaching and coaching, I continued on MoreYoga’s Advanced Teacher Training and Mandala Flow courses, then trained in Yin Yoga with Bernie Clark and Yoga with Somatics via Yoga International.
In that spirit of teaching what I’ve found I most need to learn, my practices are centred on developing inner awareness, trust and grounding in the body-brain, quality of breath connection and joyful integrity of movement. Greatly influenced by years of Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement and Functional Integration sessions with Rebecca Meitlis, I incorporate in my practices borrowed aspects of other modalities including Somatics and Tai Chi, taking a playful, exploratory, multi-faceted approach to encourage people, as Bernie Clark says, ‘to fly their own plane’.
I combine my yoga and singing teaching experience to help singers inhabit their singing bodies and their song with greater freedom, authority and dramatic power in courses at Benslow Music Trust, and have taught yoga for musicians alongside song classes at Dartington International Summer School. Together with harpist Eleanor Turner I developed meditative movement practices for the New Paths Music Festival, and offer combined workshops in conjunction with fellow musician-somatic practitioners.
A member of Yoga Alliance Professionals, I guide practices online and in person in London and Suffolk. If you are interested in learning more about one-to-one sessions, please contact me here. You can click on the links and see below for forthcoming classes and workshops:
